California Wildfire, Pine Pollen & Ash
2021
Archival pigment print, pine pollen wash and vials of pollen and ash.

For several months over the summer and fall of 2021 I had the opportunity to serve as a (virtual) artist in residence to The Arts Cabinet and The Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society, both in the UK. The objective was to pair eight artist with eight scientists in an effort to explore new ways of framing our understanding of wildfires. I had the pleasure of working with Daniele Colombaroli, a scientist in the UK.
It was an ideal pairing from my perspective as Daniele had a strong visual/art historical sensibility and a conviction regarding the pursuit of knowledge through myth and metaphor. The images in this gallery are from that experience. More about this project can be found at the Arts Cabinet’s website
